With its latest announcements, software giant Adobe is redefining the future of creativity especially with its new class of agentic AI assistants that are designed to help creators work efficiently and more intuitively. These developments announced along with updates to Adobe Express and Photoshop at the recent Adobe MAX 2025, the company has set its eyes on bringing conversational AI directly into the creative tools that are already being used by millions around the world.
According to Ely Greenfield, chief technology officer and senior vice president of creative products at Adobe, the rise of conversational interfaces is seemingly changing how users approach design and content creation. These AI systems are not merely generating single outputs like images or edits, they go much beyond, understanding context, and carry user intent across tasks, extending support across the creative cycle from conceptualisation to publication.
“Creating content isn’t just about producing something beautiful – it’s about managing the whole process,” Greenfield noted in his blog post. According to Adobe, agentic AI will serve as a “force multiplier” for creativity, enabling users to move from ideas to finished output at the same time staying in control of their craft.
AI that works with you
Adobe’s conversational assistants are more than standalone chatbots as they are being built inside existing creative suites of applications such as Photoshop, Express, Premiere Pro, Lightroom, etc. With this users can interact with AI along with retaining their hands-on precision.
Adobe claims that the assistants can help in organising content libraries, apply edits in bulk, or publish assets. And, all of this through a simple chat interface. This translates into greater freedom for creators as they can switch seamlessly between natural conversation and manual editing. “These aren’t the chatbots of the past,” Greenfield emphasised. “Our AI assistants understand creative intent, anticipate needs, and learn from each user’s style.”
The software company is already bringing these ideas to life through AI Assistants in its apps. In Adobe Express, which is now available in public beta, users can describe what they want to create. Be it a poster, a social media post, or a flyer; the AI assistant generates customisable designs that are in line with their style or brand identity. While most template-based tools come with some limitations, Adobe says with its upgraded tools users can refine individual layers or elements without starting over the entire process.
On the other hand, a private beta of the Photoshop AI Assistant allows professionals to chat directly with the AI to receive workflow guidance, generate assets, or help with making quick edits. According to Adobe, the goal is to offer creators an intelligent companion that boosts their creativity rather than replacing it.
Project Moonlight
Project Moonlight, also described as a personal orchestration assistant, is Adobe’s most ambitious step and it connects multiple Adobe apps and streamlines their AI capabilities. While each app’s assistant stays an expert in its respective domain be it Photoshop for image editing or Premiere for video, Moonlight in essence unites them into a much cohesive system.
Project Moonlight is backed by context-aware intelligence that is capable of understanding a user’s creative style, projects, and connected social accounts. Adobe claims that it can transform conversational ideas into multimedia content, analyse performance across platforms, and recommend ways to grow a creator’s audience. It is currently in private beta, and Adobe is inviting users to join the waitlist to further shape its development.
Beyond Creative Cloud
The company is also expanding its conversational AI experiences beyond its apps, essentially demonstrating a future where users can design or refine creative assets directly from popular chatbot platforms. For example, someone could start designing an event poster via a chatbot, tweak it in conversation, and then open it in Adobe Express to add finishing touches before scheduling a social-media post. And, all of this can be done without breaking workflow.
Through its agentic AI strategy, Adobe aims to make creativity more intuitive, personalised, and connected across devices and platforms. With the fusion of conversational intelligence with direct creative control, Adobe seems to be laying the groundwork for a new hybrid era.
Greenfield sums it up best: “Our vision for agentic AI is about building capable teammates that work with you – so you can stay focused on your ideas, not the process.”
