Health Desk. Vitamin D is often called the “sunshine vitamin,” because it is made in the body from exposure to sunlight. But due to changing lifestyle, more time in office and pollution, many people do not get enough sunlight. As a result, deficiency of Vitamin D in the body, due to which problems like weakening of bones, fatigue, muscle pain and decreased immunity, have become common.
If you don’t get time to sunbathe every day, no worries. There are some food items which are considered to be excellent sources of Vitamin D and by including them in your regular diet, you can fulfill the deficiency of this essential nutrient.
1. Fatty Fish
Fatty fish like salmon, tuna, and sardines are rich sources of vitamin D. Eating fish two to three times a week helps in increasing the level of Vitamin D in the body.
2. Egg Yolk
A good amount of Vitamin D is also found in egg yolk. If you eat non-veg, you can include a boiled or fried egg in your breakfast daily.
3. Mushroom
Mushrooms, especially those that have been sun-dried, are an excellent source of natural vitamin D. These are a great option for vegetarians.
what do doctors say
According to health experts, the body can get enough Vitamin D with 20 to 30 minutes of light sunlight daily and a balanced diet. If the deficiency is severe, it may be necessary to take supplements as per doctor’s advice.
