Akshaya Navami 2025: Why is the worship of Amla tree special on Kartik Shukla Navami? Know the importance, worship method and auspicious time related to Vishnu-Shiva.

Amla Navmi: According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Amla Navami is celebrated every year on the ninth date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. It is also known as ‘Akshay Navami’. According to religious beliefs, Satyayuga started from this day. There is special significance in worshiping the Amla tree on this day, because it is believed that Lord Vishnu resides in it.

This festival falls just two days before Devuthani Ekadashi. The results of virtuous deeds done on this day are eternal, that is, they never decay. Worshiping the Amla tree brings happiness, prosperity and peace in a person’s life and he gets the blessings of Lord Vishnu as well as Lord Shiva.

Importance of Amla Navami

According to the scriptures, bathing in the holy river, charity and worship on the day of Amla Navami gives special results. If bathing in the river is not possible then one should take bath at home by mixing Ganga water in the bathing water. By doing this, a person’s sins are destroyed and virtues are attained. Amla tree is considered important not only from religious point of view but also due to its medicinal properties.

Mythology: When Goddess Lakshmi worshiped Amla

According to a legend, once Goddess Lakshmi came to visit the earth. He had a desire to worship Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva together. Then he thought that there is such a tree in which the qualities of both Tulsi and Belpatra are found together. Then he remembered the Amla tree.

Mother Lakshmi considered the Amla tree as the symbol of Vishnu and Shiva and worshiped it duly. Pleased with his worship, Lord Vishnu and Bholenath appeared. After this, Goddess Lakshmi prepared food under the Amla tree and offered it to both the gods and then took the Prasad herself. It is believed that the day on which this incident occurred was the date of Kartik Shukla Navami. Since then the tradition of worshiping Amla tree started on this day.

Worship with this method

On the day of Amla Navami, wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes. After this, install the idols of Lord Vishnu and Mother Lakshmi at the place of worship. Offer them flowers, sandalwood, incense and lamps. ,Invocation and Obeisance to Lord Krishna:‘ Worship while chanting the mantra.

After this, go to the Amla tree and offer water and milk at its root. Wrap raw cotton or molly around the trunk of the tree and revolve around it. After the puja, there is a tradition of eating food with the family while sitting under the shade of the Amla tree. By doing this, the blessings of the Trinity remain on the family.
