Washington, November 1 (Read): US President Donald Trump has claimed that the Christian community in Nigeria is facing an “existential crisis,” accusing Islamic extremist groups of carrying out large-scale killings of Christians in the African nation.
In a post shared on Truth SocialTrump said that Christianity is under serious threat in Nigeriaalleging that “thousands of Christians are being killed” by radical Islamist organizations. He announced that the United States would place Nigeria under special monitoring to assess the situation.
Trump stated, “When people of the Christian faith face such a grave crisis, America cannot remain silent. We are ready, willing, and able to help protect Christian populations around the world.”
The US President also said he had directed the administration to work with Congressman Riley Moore and Senator Tom Colechair of the Senate Committee, to investigate the situation and submit a detailed report.
Under the US religious freedom policycountries placed in the “special monitoring category” are those that, according to the US government, are involved in or tolerate serious violations of religious freedom.
The latest development highlights growing international concern over sectarian violence and religious persecution in parts of Nigeria, where militant organizations have been accused of targeting minority Christian communities.
