New Delhi: The name of the country’s capital Delhi is once again in discussion. BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding to change the name of Delhi to ‘Indraprastha’. He says that this change will not only be historical justice, but will also become a symbol of connection with the roots of Indian culture and civilization.

What did the MP write in the letter?

MP Khandelwal wrote in his letter that the history of Delhi is thousands of years old and this is the same land where Pandavas had established a city named ‘Indraprastha’. He said that this city has been the center of Indian civilization, religion and policy. Therefore Delhi should be honored with its ancient name.

He further said that grand statues of Pandavas should be installed in the capital, so that the new generation can get inspiration from the conduct, religion and courage of our ancient heroes. According to the MP, this will revive the glorious history and cultural traditions of India.

Suggestion to change the name of railway station and airport

Praveen Khandelwal talked about changing not only the name of Delhi but also the names of its major places. According to him, Old Delhi Railway Station should be named ‘Indraprastha Junction’. The name of Indira Gandhi International Airport should be changed to ‘Indraprastha Airport’. He said that this change will not only be a change of name, but will also restore the historical and civilizational identity of the capital.

Steps towards cultural renaissance

MP Khandelwal wrote that when other historical cities of the country like Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Varanasi and Ujjain are reconnecting with their ancient identity, then Delhi should also be recognized in its original form.

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has entered the era of cultural renaissance. In such a situation, the name ‘Indraprastha’ will be a true reflection of Delhi’s history and its soul. According to the MP, this step will prove to be a historic decision towards restoring history and reviving cultural respect.

They also got support

This demand of BJP MP is not new. Earlier, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had also made a similar appeal. VHP had asked the Delhi government to change the names of the capital, airport and railway station to link them with the cultural identity of the Mahabharata period.

At the same time, former minister Vijay Goel had also given a suggestion last month that the English spelling of Delhi should be changed to ‘Dilli’, so that this name is in accordance with Indian pronunciation and tradition. Just like it was done from Bombay to Mumbai, Madras to Chennai and Calcutta to Kolkata.
