Starlink, the satellite internet company of Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and owner of Tesla and X (formerly Twitter), is now preparing for its entry in India. The company has started the hiring process in India, indicating that Starlink’s satellite internet service may be formally launched in the country in the coming months.
Hiring started in the country
Starlink has recently released jobs for several positions on its official website and LinkedIn. These include roles such as business development, network operations, government affairs, and technical support. This is the first time the company has launched such an active recruitment process for India. Industry experts say that this is a big step towards the commercial launch of Starlink in India.
Aim to reach rural areas
Starlink aims to provide fast and stable internet connectivity to areas of India where broadband or fiber networks are not yet available. The company will provide internet from the sky through its satellite technology, so that people in hilly, maritime and rural areas will also be able to use internet at high speed.
Starlink claims that its service will provide internet with speeds of more than 100 Mbps and low latency.
The process of approval from the government continues
Starlink had earlier tried to launch its services in India, but the project was put on hold due to lack of government approvals and licensing process at that time. Now the company has again started applying for necessary permissions from the Telecom Ministry and TRAI.
According to sources, the company may soon sign agreements with Indian partners under rural connectivity projects.
Elon Musk’s strategy
Elon Musk says that the goal of Starlink is not just to sell internet, but to provide equal connectivity facilities to every person in the world. India is a huge market for them, where about 70 crore people are still deprived of high-speed internet. Musk had said that “Starlink will provide internet where the signal has not reached till date.”
Preparation for the new era of Internet in India
If Starlink’s service is launched successfully, it will usher in a new era of satellite internet in India. This will not only strengthen the Digital India Mission, but can also see a big change in the education, health and e-commerce sectors.
