New Delhi: The Patna Police apprehended Janata Dal (United) candidate Anant Singh on Saturday, November 1. The former Mokama MLA was accused of the murder of Jan Suraaj worker Dular Chand Yadav.

Hours after the arrest, Anant shared his first reaction on social media and expressed his arrest as a political influence ahead of the upcoming Bihar elections.

The former Mokama MLA shared a video of himself being escorted by the Patna Police and quoted “Satyamev Jayate!! I have complete faith in the people of Mokama! Therefore, the people of Mokama will now contest the elections.”

Earlier, Patna SSP led a police team that arrested Anant from his residence in Barh. He was the primary accused in the Dularchand murder case; his arrest was a part of the investigation.

Dularchand was shot dead on October 30, following a clash between Anant’s supporters and Dularchand’s group in Mokama, where Anant’s wife is the current MLA from the area.

Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram were also arrested by the police alongside Anant, and now all are in custody for interrogation.

Anant Singh’s lawyer, Naveen Kumar, declared that his client’s arrest was a political conspiracy and stated that Anant was unnecessarily targeted by the authorities.

“Their only motive is to influence the vote, and there’s no other intention. Dularchand’s death was very tragic, we express our condolences, but he (Singh) was unnecessarily targeted. The issue is related to the election, and the opposition is behind this,” Naveen Kumar stated.

Naveen also confirmed that Anant would be presented before the legal team imposes charges in court.

Anant is contesting the election from the Mokama seat, and the election in that seat is included in phase 1 on November 6. The former Mokama MLA is considered a dominant figure, and his arrest just before the days of polling is likely to have an impact on the election.
