How Mumbai Bounced Back After Deepak Hooda's Brilliant Century?
Cricket Gully | November 3, 2025 4:39 AM CST

A fine century from Deepak Hooda had earlier put Mumbai on the backfoot against Rajasthan, as the hosts gained a solid upper hand in their first innings. Mumbai, which managed only 254 runs, were pushed further into trouble when Rajasthan’s opener Sachin Yadav played a fluent knock of 92, followed by Hooda’s unbeaten 121.

The partnership gave Rajasthan a commanding first-innings lead of 85 runs with six wickets still intact, placing them comfortably in control at that stage. But the game took a dramatic turn as Mumbai found a way to claw back into contention. Their bowlers struck crucial blows early on the following day, removing Hooda and the middle order in quick succession, ensuring Rajasthan’s lead did not swell beyond reach.

While Mumbai fought back in their clash, Karun Nair and Smaran Ravichandran completely dominated proceedings in Kerala. Nair, who had been in sensational touch, converted his start into a magnificent double century, keeping the Karnataka innings rock-solid.

Smaran Ravichandran also joined the run-fest with an unbeaten 220, leading Karnataka to a massive 586/5 before declaring. Their bowlers then carried the momentum, with Vidhwath Kaverappa striking twice to leave Kerala reeling at 21/3 by stumps.

Shaik Rasheed and Saurabh Kumar Shine for Andhra

An unbeaten century from Shaik Rasheed and an all-round show by Saurabh Kumar helped Andhra tighten their grip over Odisha in Cuttack. Resuming at 222/3, Rasheed powered his way to 140*, while Saurabh added a fiery 69 off 38 balls to help Andhra post 475/7d. With the ball, Saurabh again proved his worth by taking key wickets as Odisha stumbled from 65/1 to 80/4 before stumps.

Jharkhand's Shikhar Mohan smashed a double century 207 as they piled up 510/8d against Nagaland, while Hyderabad's Chama Milind led a gritty fightback with an unbeaten 94 after his team was reduced to 132/7 against Himachal Pradesh.

In other games, Vidarbha turned the tables on Tamil Nadu, thanks to Nachiket Bhute's five-wicket haul and Parth Rekhade's support, while Gujarat's bowlers kept the contest alive against Haryana in a low-scoring affair. The spirited Mumbai comeback after Deepak Hooda's century was one of the talking points of the round, reminding their opponents that this is a side capable of striking back every time it is pushed to the brink.
