In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood many actors come and go but there are only a few celebrities whose charm fails to fade and they attain such stardom that remains unmatched. One such example of this is Shah Rukh Khan the superstar. From becoming the king of hearts by playing iconic romantic characters to portraying ruthless gangsters he has done it all. But what makes Shah Rukh Khan stand out in the pool of so many other actors is his commitment to realism. Recently Raees film director Rahul Dholakia also opened up about the dedication of Shah Rukh Khan and how he got into the character of Miya Bhai. Shah Rukh played the role of a bootlegger from Gujarat a raw powerful character that demanded authenticity in every frame. Staying authentic to his role SRK did a scene that showcased his devotion; it was as simple yet symbolic as eating mutton. . Shah Rukh’s questions and preparation Director Rahul Dholakia revealed that during the narration of the script Shah Rukh “asked a lot of questions” and was deeply invested in every detail. For one particular scene the director wanted SRK to eat mutton at a local dhaaba. However his team wasn’t in favour of it. Despite that “Shah Rukh went ahead and did what Rahul wanted.” Rahul said “He surprised me in every scene.” The scene that showed his dedication Dholakia said “The second scene was him sitting with Zeeshan Ayyub and eating at a dhaaba. He was supposed to eat mutton over there. We were told that he won’t eat the mutton and his food will come from Oberoi—the chicken. I got all of that but the scene didn’t work till he ate the mutton the way it was supposed to be eaten because he was Miya Bhai from the ghettos of Gujarat.” The director added that SRK insisted on staying true to the character: “He isn’t a sophisticated guy; he isn’t Shah Rukh Khan in that scene. I got my homemade mutton with bones and the fancy chicken from Oberoi as well.” When Shah Rukh went against his team Rahul added “I told him that this is the scene and character and you should eat the suggested mutton as opposed to what some people are saying. He said ‘Mai toh mutton hi khaaunga na (I will eat the mutton only).’ That’s okay; you put the mutton over there and don’t tell the team.” The director further shared “Then he ate that mutton how Miya Bhai would eat or how someone who enjoys eating it by tapping and sucking the bones. It became a very natural scene then; that’s what adds to the scene.” The scene showed Shah Rukh Khan’s devotion to his character and relentless pursuit of perfection. Whether it’s embracing a small gesture or transforming into a character completely he put his best in each shot. That’s what makes SRK the King both on and off screen.
