On his 60th birthday, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan spoke about his 2011 superhero action film Ra.One. Hinting towards the possibility of a sequel, he said that he would definitely bring back G.One (his character) if it’s on the cards. Expectations were pinned on Ra.One as it was a one-of-a-kind film for that era. 

The video game-inspired superhero action drama had a lot to offer but unfortunately was not appreciated adequately in its time. Here’s what Shah Rukh Khan said about the sequel of Ra.One.

In the last three decades, Shah Rukh Khan has given the world many unforgettable movies that stay with us even after the end credits roll. One of them was Ra.One. Even though the film did not manage to fulfill the desired expectations, it was nothing short of a cultural reset.

Shah Rukh Khan, on his 60th birthday, said that Ra.One was pretty close to his heart as it was a different genre than what he was used to doing. He also added that the film was made with a lot of effort, passion and hard work. He said that he expected the film to do exceptionally well.

At his birthday celebration event, he said, “Because it was a new kind of film, and it was very close to my heart. Anubhav worked really hard to make it. So I was expecting it to start a new trend. Because I always feel that if I make a film- since my position is so good, and I’ve really been gifted by God to be in this position- then I should make things that inspire others to make such films too. Because it’s very important for our country."

He further added, “I thought that when I made Ra.One, everyone would say, ‘It’s a superhero film!’ Not just a superhero one, but it was also about visual effects. Studios would come here, a lot of things would change. So yes, it didn’t quite live up to those expectations. But as a film, it did very well. I think people loved it even then.”

He also added that maybe Ra.One would be appreciated more in today’ times when technology has advanced significantly.

He said. “And maybe there were things – like PlayStation, video games, or iPads- that people weren’t so familiar with back then. Now we know much more about all that. Everyone has a smartphone now. Back then, it wasn’t like that. Today, it would probably be more acceptable.”

He further spoke about a possible Ra.One sequel. He said that if Anubhav Sinha, the director of Ra.One, decides to make a sequel, he would do it.

He added, “So yes, if Anubhav ever decides to… because he’s the one who made it, and I think only he can make it again. We worked really hard on it. And God willing, if the time ever feels right, we might do it again. It’s easier now anyway.”

The actor gave this statement at his 60th birthday celebration which was held at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir Auditorium in Bandra. Shah Rukh Khan reportedly met more than 300 fans, cut a spectacular three-tier cake adorned with a golden crown, and celebrated alongside his longtime manager, Pooja Dadlani, who also shares his birthday. He also met and greeted his fans.
