Women often ignore their bone health, but experts say that osteoporosis (weakening of bones) is a disease that gradually steals the strength of bones and is often not detected until a serious fracture or injury occurs. This disease is also called “silent disease” because the initial symptoms look like normal health problems.
What is osteoporosis?
In osteoporosis, bones become weak and fragile. Bone density gradually decreases, increasing the risk of fracture. This problem is more common in women due to hormonal changes after menopause.
Important symptoms not to ignore:
Persistent pain in the waist or back – This can be an early sign that the bones of the spine are weakening.
Decrease in height or bending – If suddenly the shoulders start bending or the height decreases, it can be a sign of thinning bones.
More fractures in bones – Breaking of bones due to minor injury or fall is a serious symptom of osteoporosis.
Weakness or tingling in hands and legs – This problem can start due to weakening of bones and muscles.
Pain when turning or bending – Be careful if normal activities like bending or getting up start feeling painful.
Who are at risk:
women after menopause
people who smoke or consume alcohol
physically inactive people
People with calcium and vitamin D deficiency
prevention and solutions
Calcium and Vitamin D rich foods: Milk, curd, cheese, green vegetables and sunlight.
Regular exercise: Weight-bearing exercises like walking, jogging and yoga strengthen bones.
Avoiding smoking and alcohol: These reduce the strength of bones.
Bone test: Bone density test should be done after the age of 40 years.
Experts say that it is very important to identify and prevent osteoporosis in time. Ignoring early symptoms can lead to serious fractures in the future and serious impact on lifestyle.
