Bihar Assembly Election Dates Announced

The dates for the Bihar Assembly elections have been officially announced. According to the election commission, the voting will take place in two phases on November 6 and November 11. The results are set to be declared on November 14. A significant focus is on the Mahua constituency, where the first phase of voting will occur on November 6, and a fierce contest is anticipated. This is particularly noteworthy as Tej Pratap Yadav, the elder son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, is contesting from Mahua. Recently, Lalu Yadav removed Tej Pratap from the RJD and the family, prompting him to establish a new political party.

Who Are the Main Contenders?

In the Mahua constituency, four candidates are primarily vying for votes. Tej Pratap Yadav is representing the Jan Shakti Party, while Sanjay Kumar Singh is contesting from the NDA's LJP. The RJD has placed its trust in Mukesh Kumar Roshan, and the newly formed Jan Suraj Party has fielded Indrajeet Pradhan for this seat.

Jan Shakti Party Candidate

Historically, the RJD has maintained a stronghold in the Mahua constituency, winning every election since 2000, except for 2010. Tej Pratap Yadav was elected as an MLA in 2015 and is now contesting again. However, the dynamics have changed significantly this time. Although a large crowd supported him during nominations, no family members were seen alongside him, as he competes against candidates from his father's party.

RJD Candidate

The current MLA and RJD candidate for this seat is Mukesh Roshan. With a substantial number of Yadav voters in Mahua, Roshan is actively working to convince voters that if they wish to see Tejashwi Yadav as Chief Minister, their votes should be cast in his favor.

LJP (Ram Vilas) Candidate

Representing the ruling NDA, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is contesting from Mahua. Despite being part of Chirag Paswan's parliamentary constituency, Sanjay Kumar Singh lost his deposit in the last election. Coming from the Rajput community, Singh is believed to have a strong influence over upper caste votes, which could position him as a 'dark horse' in this four-way contest.
