ODI: Following a disastrous conclusion to the recently finished World Cup, South Africa’s skipper Laura Wolvaardt has overtaken India’s Smriti Mandhana as the top-ranked batter in the ICC Women’s ODI rankings. After smashing a century in both the semi-final and final, Wolvaardt finished the tournament with 571 runs in nine innings, the highest total for a player in a single Women’s World Cup edition. As a result, she moved up two spots to pass Mandhana, who scored 45 and 24 in the knockout stages.

Ash Gardner, an Australian all-rounder who lost out on a significant score in the semi-final match against India, and Mandhana both dropped only one position. The two major winners in the top 10 were Ellyse Perry and Jemimah Rodrigues. The seasoned Australian all-rounder, who scored 77 in the semi-final match against India, rose three spaces to share seventh place. After a thrilling knock of 127*, which sent India to the final, the new No. 3 in the rankings moved up nine positions to No. 10.

With just one half-century in six innings and being removed from the team at the same time, Rodrigues didn’t get the tournament experience she had hoped for. But when the 25-year-old was given the chance to bat at number three once again, she did it well, playing the innings of her life.

Both Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Australian starter Phoebe Litchfield, who both excelled in their teams’ semifinals, were next on the list of significant winners. Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored a run-a-ball 89 in the 339-run chase in the semi-final, jumped four ranks to No. 14, while centurion Litchfield went up 13 spaces to No 13.

The two Indian hitters in the top 30 were Richa Ghosh (30th) and Deepti Sharma (21st), who both moved up three and four points, respectively. After earning Player of the Final, Indian opener Shafali Verma, who was substituted before the knockout stages, rose 24 spots to share 74th place after hitting 87 runs with the bat and capturing a few wickets.
