Australian singer Danny Mayers has tragically lost his life aged 77 following a long battle with kidney disease. The performer died on October 30, and the heartbreaking news was confirmed on social media. He was best known for being the frontman of the Australian band The Delltones from the '80s to 2011. The statement read: "It is with heavy hearts that we share the sad news of Danny Mayers' passing, following his courageous battle with a rare kidney disease. Our deepest sympathy and love are with Christina, his family, and all those who were touched by him."
The band's statement added: "Danny's unique spirit and extraordinary voice left an indelible mark on The Delltones and on everyone fortunate enough to experience his talent and humour. We are profoundly grateful for the laughter and unforgettable music he brought into the lives of fans and friends alike. Danny, your voice, your humour and sometimes feisty spirit will remain with us always. We will remember you with deep fondness."
There has been a huge response from fans who have paid tribute with emotional comments. One person typed: "I'm extremely saddened by this news. Danny was someone special to me and provided many amazing memories and experiences. Really hurts."
A second also commented: "I extend my deepest sympathies to Danny's family and friends. Very sad news. He was an amazing entertainer. I will play some of his tracks today in memory of an amazing performer."
A third also said: "RIP Danny, you always performed at the highest level. I had the pleasure and privilege to have seen you and the Delltones 6 or 7 times. Always a great night. Condolences to your family and friends."
A fourth said: "Condolences to the Deltones, the fans and the family at this time. He was an amazing talent and an even better human. Like the rest of them. Incredibly blessed I got to meet them when I did."
Mayers joined the band 20 years into their run as a temporary stand-in after their previous singer left. He recorded several albums, including 1983's Bop Till You Drop.
The Delltones were one of Australia's most well-known bands and appeared on several television shows, such as In Melbourne Tonight. Mayers left the band in 2011 and continued as a solo artist.
