Significant Seizures by Security Forces

Imphal: In a significant operation, security personnel in Manipur have uncovered a substantial stockpile of weapons and ammunition, while also apprehending two interstate drug traffickers and confiscating 2 kg of brown sugar within the last day, as reported by officials on Wednesday.

According to sources, a collaborative effort involving the Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and other Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) units led to the recovery of these items in the Imphal East and Thoubal districts.

The cache of arms included a foreign-manufactured M16 rifle, an SBBL PAG, two .22 rifles, six 9 mm pistols, each with a magazine, and a repeater gun.

Additionally, the seized ammunition comprised five grenades, two detonators, and various cartridges.

The Manipur Police successfully detained two drug peddlers, identified as Mohammad Mustakim, 28, and Umar Khan, 30, both hailing from Thoubal district, along with approximately 2 kg of brown sugar valued at over Rs 1 crore in the Sekmai Pangaltabi area of Imphal West.

Ongoing operations by security forces aim to combat militant activities, with extensive searches and area control measures being implemented in mixed-population and vulnerable regions across the districts.

To thwart illegal movements and potential threats, a total of 115 checkpoints have been established throughout Manipur, covering both hilly and valley areas. Security forces are also providing escorts for vehicles, including trucks transporting essential goods along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37).

Enhanced security protocols are in place at all sensitive locations, with security convoys ensuring safe passage for vehicles.

The Manipur Police have urged the public to remain cautious and not to fall for rumors or misleading videos. They emphasized that the authenticity of any circulated content can be verified through the Central Control Room. Furthermore, individuals are warned that sharing false information on social media could lead to legal repercussions.

Authorities have also called on the community to return any looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the police or the nearest security post without delay.
