New Delhi . The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced Team India for the two-match Test series between India and South Africa. For this series starting from November 14, Shubman Gill has been appointed as the captain and Rishabh Pant as the vice-captain and wicketkeeper. With this selection, some important changes have been seen in the team. While the return of Rishabh Pant was the biggest news, fast bowler Mohammed Shami has once again been kept out of the team.
After his excellent performance in the home series and the recent war of words over selection, it was believed that Shami would return to the Test team, but the selectors did not give him a chance. Due to this, discussions have again intensified in the cricket world.
This series against South Africa will be important for Indian cricket in many ways. On one hand, Shubman Gill’s captaincy will be tested, while on the other hand, Rishabh Pant’s return will give new energy to the team. At the same time, the absence of Mohammed Shami has raised new questions regarding the selection. Now it remains to be seen how well this team, studded with young players, performs on foreign soil.
-Team India squad
Shubman Gill (captain), Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper/vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudarshan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Akash Deep.
-Great comeback of Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant’s return to the team has come after a long wait. Pant remained away from cricket for almost a year after suffering a serious injury during the Manchester Test against England. In the recent matches against South Africa ‘A’, he proved both his fitness and form by performing brilliantly. Considering this performance, the selectors have given him the responsibility of vice-captain. His return will strengthen both India’s batting and wicket-keeping departments.
-Shubman Gill got a big opportunity
Young batsman Shubman Gill has been given the command of the Test team for the first time. In view of his consistently good performance and leadership abilities, BCCI has given him this responsibility. Cricket experts believe that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the future of the team and it is a big step towards grooming Gill as the next captain.
-Akash Deep got a chance to debut
Young fast bowler Akash Deep has also been included in the team. This Bengal bowler has performed brilliantly in domestic cricket and India ‘A’ team. The selectors have indicated to give him a chance to debut in the upcoming series. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will lead the team on the new ball front, while the spin department includes Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav.
-Series Schedule
This two-match series will be part of the World Test Championship (WTC). The first Test match will be played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata from 14 November, while the second Test will be played in Guwahati from 22 November.
