Voting Begins in Bihar Assembly Elections

The Bihar Assembly elections commenced on Thursday, with the first phase witnessing a voter turnout of 13.13% by 9 AM. Voting is taking place across 121 of the state's 243 seats, showcasing a fierce competition between the ruling NDA and the resurgent Grand Alliance. Voting started at 7 AM and will continue until 5 PM. Prominent leaders have urged citizens to participate in large numbers at their respective polling stations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called upon the people of Bihar to exercise their voting rights, emphasizing that today marks the first phase of a democratic celebration in the state. Elderly Voter Assisted to Polling Station

In Vaishali, a man was seen carrying an elderly woman to the polling station to ensure she could cast her vote. A similar scene was reported from Tarapur, where another elderly woman was observed making her way to the polling booth with the help of a wooden stick. Witnessing her struggle, security personnel stepped in to assist her, highlighting the commitment of voters to participate in the elections despite age-related challenges.


Candidate Maithili Thakur Visits Temple Before Voting

Meanwhile, Maithili Thakur, the BJP candidate from the Alinagar seat, visited the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Darbhanga district on Thursday morning. At just 25 years old, Thakur is the youngest candidate in this election cycle, contesting from constituency 81. She expressed confidence in performing well in the elections and assured that she would facilitate a smooth voting process for all voters. In her statement to the media, she mentioned, "I start each day with a prayer. I am learning new things every day and am committed to ensuring that no voter faces any issues. I am ready."


Overview of Phase 1 of Bihar Assembly Elections

In the first phase, approximately 3.75 crore voters will determine the electoral fate of 1,314 candidates, including prominent figures like Tejashwi Yadav, the Chief Ministerial candidate from the India Block, and Samrat Chaudhary, the Deputy Chief Minister from the BJP. Voting is being conducted at 45,341 polling stations, with the majority (36,733) located in rural areas. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is striving to maintain its hold on power, while the Grand Alliance is hopeful for a strong comeback in these assembly elections.
