Significant Drug and Currency Seizures at CSMIA

At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), customs officials apprehended five travelers in connection with five separate incidents involving hydroponic marijuana valued at ₹13.07 crores and U.S. currency worth ₹87 lakhs. This information was disclosed by officials on Wednesday.

The authorities reported that the illicit substances and foreign currency were discovered in the passengers' checked baggage. An official indicated that these seizures occurred during an operation conducted between October 31 and November 3.

The customs team intercepted four travelers arriving from Colombo and Bangkok, collectively seizing 13.077 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana, which is estimated to be worth ₹13.077 crores. The contraband was cleverly concealed within trolley bags, shampoo bottles, and packets of chocolates and chips.

Following thorough questioning, the travelers were taken into custody. Hydroponic marijuana is a potent and costly variant of cannabis, cultivated using nutrient-rich water solutions instead of traditional soil methods.

In a separate incident, customs officials recovered $100 notes valued at ₹87 lakhs from a passenger heading to Dubai. This individual has also been arrested under the Customs Act, and further investigations are ongoing.
