Meghan Markle's 'self-love is obvious' as she pursues acting for one reason

Meghan Markle could be aiming to get an "invitation to the Oscars" with her latest acting role, a royal expert has claimed. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, is set to be on TV screens once more as it has been revealed she will be playing herself in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends.

The Duchess has been seen on the movie set in LA, but is yet to actually address the news herself. While some of her fans are delighted by the fact that Meghan is returning to acting - a profession she had before marrying Prince Harry - others are sceptical about the career move.

This includes royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, who said that Meghan's "self-love", especially as she is set to play herself, "is obvious".

Mr Fitzwilliams exclusively told Express.co.uk: "Oscar Wilde wrote 'to love oneself is the beginning of a lifetime's romance'. Meghan's self-love is obvious, we saw it in the cringey With Love, Meghan cookery series which got panned and her podcasts got the boot from Spotify.

"So what could she do to get good reviews? Why not appear with some real A-listers and get an invitation to the Oscars? Play herself in the upcoming comedy Close Personal Friends with Brie Larson, Jack Quaid and Lily Collins. Think of the publicity! Not to mention the timing (of the news) on the day of Prince William's Earthshot Prize Awards!"

Speaking about how Meghan's role in the movie will impact the film, Mr Fitzwilliams said: "Her appearance will undoubtedly give the film publicity. She made her name in Suits and should be totally at ease looking, as it were, in the mirror.

"Whether she is looking to change her career as Netflix awaits the first options on their next offering is another matter. The Sussex brand is significant enough to get publicity but, at the moment anyway, it does not excite admiration!"

It is not known how big Meghan's role will be in the movie.

However, it is believed she has the full support of her husband Prince Harry, who has stuck by Meghan's side through all her career moves since they quit royal life together in 2020.

This will be Meghan's first return to acting since before marrying Prince Harry in 2018, when she starred as character Rachel Zane on the hit series Suits.
