Meghan Markle is back acting - it just proves 1 thing we've always known

It's the Hollywood comeback that no one asked for: Meghan Markle's return to the silver screen. And I have to give her some credit here, as this bombshell move could be about the most honest thing that she's done in years. The Duchess of Sussex has delighted her fans, and likely set eyes rolling in the Palace, with the revelation that she's set to appear in Close Personal Friends alongside Lily Collins, Brie Larson and Jack Quaid. But in a hilarious art-imitating-life-moment, the role isn't to play a character, as is usually the way...she will be PLAYING HERSELF. I mean, you couldn't make it up, could you?

Make no bones about it - Meghan Markle (sorry, Meghan Sussex) has been acting from the moment she rocked up on British shores to snare Prince Harry. From her ludicrous statement that she had no idea about what being a member of the Royal Family entailed to her carefully curated audition to impress Harry by selling herself as a global campaigner for justice, it's all been one big act.

But after her cameo as a working royal, she decided that she and Prince Harry weren't getting good enough lighting compared to Kate and Wills. So she called time on that role and embarked on a slew of others where she could decide on her own best angles. From Meghan the Author (The Bench, remember that) to Meghan the Netflix Producer to, now, Meghan the CEO.

And this is where the problem lies. Instead of sticking to something she genuinely cares about, every new venture from Meghan feels like a constant scramble for relevance rather than something deeper and more genuine. Compare that to other royals who've built careers from real passions: Zara Tindall turned her love of horses and Olympic Equestrian career into a role as a director at Cheltenham Racecourse. Meanwhile, her husband, former rugby star Mike Tindall, moved into sports commentary and podcasting.

Now, I must say, that clearly there is absolutely nothing wrong with carving out a career as an actor. In fact, Meghan's seven-season run on the Netflix drama Suits (I know the length of time, as she's mentioned it so many times) was very successful. It also seemed that in front of the camera was where she was most happy. She spent the next eight years, however, insisting she was above all that razzmatazz.

This latest move proves what we all knew all along: Meghan has returned to the career she never really left, because she craves the limelight with or without Prince Harry in tow. And do you know what? I hope she sticks it out this time because, quite frankly, Hollywood can keep her.
