Delhi: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has decided to form a special committee to investigate the allegations of sexual harassment made by former women’s team captain Jahanara Alam. The Board has directed the committee to submit its report and recommendations within 15 working days.
BCB expressed concern, asked for report in 15 days
The official statement issued by the BCB said, “The Board is concerned about the serious allegations made by a former member of the Bangladesh national women’s cricket team against some individuals associated with the team. This matter is extremely sensitive, therefore the BCB has decided to form a committee to investigate it. The committee will present its findings and recommendations within 15 working days.”
The statement also said that the board is committed to ensuring a safe, respectful and professional environment for all its players and staff. BCB clarified that it takes such matters extremely seriously and will take necessary action based on the outcome of the investigation.
Jahanara Alam’s serious allegations
Jahanara Alam has accused former chief selector and team manager Manjrul Islam of sexual harassment. In an interview given to journalist Riyasad Azim, Jahanara told that Manjrul Islam had behaved inappropriately with her.
She said that Manjrul Islam used to put his hand on her shoulder without permission and sometimes talked about personal things, due to which she felt uncomfortable. He also alleged that Islam used to move forward to hug instead of shaking hands, that too in the presence of other players and officials of the team.
Complaint was made to BCB officials
According to Jahanara, he had complained about this matter to former BCB director Shafiul Islam Nadel and board chief executive officer Nizamuddin Chaudhary.
Important achievements in career
Jahanara Alam is a leading fast bowler who has played for Bangladesh at the international level. He has taken 48 wickets in 52 ODI matches at an average of 30.39, while in 83 T20 matches he has taken 60 wickets at an average of 24.03.
