The world’s most popular messaging platform WhatsApp is now going to take a big step towards strengthening the security of users. The company is soon going to introduce a new safety feature, which will help protect users from online frauds like cyber attacks, fake messages and unauthorized logins. This feature is currently in the testing stage and is expected to be released to all users in the next few months.
Big step amid increasing cyber threat
In the last few years, cases of phishing links, scam calls and hacking have increased. Cyber criminals try to extort personal information or money from users by creating fake profiles. WhatsApp has admitted that it is difficult to completely stop these incidents, but with the new technology such threats can be prevented to a great extent.
According to the company, the new security update will be based on features like “Account Protect Layer” and “Link Safety Check”, which will further strengthen user data with encryption.
What will be the new feature?
Device Verification Alert:
If someone tries to login to your account from another mobile or computer, WhatsApp will immediately send a notification.
Safe Link Warning:
Before clicking on any suspicious link appearing in the chat, the app itself will warn that the link may be unsafe or a possible phishing site.
Automated Security Scan:
The app will periodically check device and account activity, so that any unknown logins or data transfers can be immediately identified.
End-to-end encryption will be at the center
WhatsApp already uses end-to-end encryption technology, which keeps messages limited to only the sender and recipient. The new safety system will take this encryption to a more advanced level. Experts believe that this will almost eliminate the possibility of user data leak.
company statement
WhatsApp’s parent company Meta has said that user security is its biggest focus area. A company spokesperson said, “We want people to use WhatsApp not only with convenience, but also with confidence. The new feature is another step in this direction.”
expert opinion
Cyber security experts are considering this step as positive. He says that as digital transactions and online communication are increasing, the need for security has also increased.
“If technology is strong along with user awareness, then control over cyber crime is possible,” experts said.
