Dehradun Commercial Tax:There is a big uproar in Dehradun! Doon Valley Metropolitan Industry Trade Board today submitted a memorandum to Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal and strongly demanded complete waiver of the huge interest being charged on house tax and commercial tax in the entire 100 wards.
The anger of the traders is at its peak because the interest that the Municipal Corporation is duping the public and shopkeepers under the self-assessment policy of 2015-2016 is being described as extremely shameful and unjust.
On this occasion, Mandal President Pankaj Mason, Chief Patron Sushil Aggarwal, General Secretary Pankaj Didan, Vice President Jaspal Chhabra, Senior Vice President Shekhar Phulara and Convenor Rajiv Gandhi Kewal Kumar were present. Everyone said in one voice that it would not be tolerated anymore.
Wrote emotional letter to CM Dhami, exposed the dark deeds of Municipal Corporation
Mandal has written a direct letter to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami requesting him. It is clearly stated in the letter that under the self assessment policy of 2016, 12 percent interest along with the principal amount on commercial properties is being looted. Former Mayor Sunil Uniyal Gama had passed a proposal to stop interest collection in the Municipal Corporation Board meeting on 31 December 2023, but alas! Even today the Municipal Corporation is charging double the interest on the principal amount.
From 2016 to 2025, crores of rupees were looted from businessmen in the name of interest. Mandal called it money lending and said that the Municipal Corporation is there to serve the public and not a company that brokers interest. Traders, already burdened with taxes, are now on the verge of collapse.
The blow of Corona has not been forgotten yet, Mall-Online snatched away the bread
The three years of Corona were like a dark period. Markets remained closed for months, shops remained deserted, many traders even lost their lives. Families reached the brink of starvation. On top of that, online business and glittering malls broke the backs of local shopkeepers. Now running a shop, paying salaries to employees, raising a family – everything has become difficult. Businessmen are breaking down due to mental stress. Mandal warned that if relief is not given soon, there will be a big movement!
Four big demands of traders, if not fulfilled then they will take to the streets
Mandal has clearly put forward four demands. First – Tax rates on commercial properties should be reduced immediately. Second – Taxes for three years of Corona should be waived off. Third – The unfair interest looted from 2016 to 2025 should either be returned or adjusted in the coming years. Fourth – The board’s proposal to stop pass interest should be implemented immediately.
Traders are now hopeful that CM Dhami will listen to their call and order immediate relief. Otherwise the streets of Dehradun will witness a big movement.
