On Friday, the Kerala Forest Department dispatched two trained elephants to the residential areas of Kuthiran in Thrissur district to drive away a wild elephant that has been causing disturbances. Officials confirmed this action.
For the past two weeks, the wild elephant has repeatedly entered the Irumpupalam region, instilling fear among local residents. Last week, an attempt to chase the elephant resulted in an injury to a forest officer and damage to a departmental vehicle.
During a recent visit to the area, Forest Minister A.K. Shashindran instructed officials to take all necessary measures to ensure public safety.
According to forest officials, the elephant had intruded into residential zones on Wednesday and Thursday nights. As part of the operation to return it to the forest, two trained kumki elephants, Bharat and Vikram, were brought from their camp in Wayanad on Friday. Kumki elephants are utilized to capture, calm, and guide wild elephants back to their herds or to safely relocate them in conflict situations.
