The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated an inquiry into the murder of Akhil Akhtar, aged 35, involving former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa, his wife, former state minister Razia Sultana, and others. This information was confirmed by officials.

Akhil Akhtar was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances on October 16 in Panchkula, Haryana. According to the FIR filed on Thursday, there were disputes between the deceased and his family.

A spokesperson for the CBI stated late Thursday that the agency registered the FIR on November 6, based on allegations that the former DGP and Razia Sultana were involved in Akhtar's suspicious death. Mustafa and Sultana currently reside in Sector 4 near the Manasa Devi Temple in Panchkula.

The statement revealed that the CBI has charged Mustafa and Sultana, along with Akhtar's wife and sister, under sections related to murder and criminal conspiracy of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The agency noted that Akhtar had posted a video on social media on August 27, claiming he had discovered 'illicit relations' between his wife and father, and alleged that his entire family, including his mother and sister, was plotting to murder him or frame him in a false case. Initially, the Panchkula police registered the case, which was later handed over to the CBI by the Haryana government.
