India’s batting sensation Rodrogue has revealed a heartwarming message she received from Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland following India’s dramatic win in the Women’s World Cup 2025 semifinal. Jemimah’s match-winning unbeaten 127 not only powered India to the final but also ended Australia’s 16-match winning streak in the tournament — a result that brought heartbreak to the defending champions.
Jemimah Rodrigues reveals Annabel Sutherland’s emotional message
Despite the emotional defeat, Sutherland displayed incredible sportsmanship and empathy, sending a message that deeply moved Jemimah. The Indian batter shared the story in a recent video posted by the Delhi Capitals on Instagram, where she recalled the moment with visible admiration.
Jemimah, who shares the Delhi Capitals dressing room with Sutherland in the Women’s Premier League (WPL)opened up about the Australian’s kind words that came shortly after the game at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on October 30.
“After the game, it was heartbreaking for them to lose a semi-final. I know how much it means to Bellsy (Sutherland) and how much she loves her cricket, even though she doesn’t always show it,” Jemimah said. “She messaged me saying, ‘The character you’ve shown throughout this tournament has been outstanding. You totally deserve to own that moment tonight,’” said Jemimah as quoted by HT.
The message, coming moments after one of Australia’s most painful losses, left Jemimah humbled and emotional.
“I looked at that message and thought, what a person! They had just suffered the most heartbreaking loss, yet she still reached out to a friend to encourage me, even though we were opponents at that moment. I have mad respect for her,” she added.
Friendship beyond rivalry
Jemimah and Sutherland have built a strong friendship through their time together at Delhi Capitals, where both players have been key contributors to the franchise’s success. Their camaraderie goes beyond competition — something that was evident in Sutherland’s gesture.
Both players have been retained by Delhi Capitals for the 2026 WPL season, alongside Shafali Verma, Marizanne Kappand Niki Prasad. Jemimah’s revelation of the message resonated with fans, who praised the spirit of sportsmanship and mutual respect between the two stars.
