Dhruv Jurel strengthened his chances of staying in India’s Test team with his second consecutive century against South Africa A helping India A take control on the third day of the four-day match on Saturday. Jurel (127 not out) teamed up with Harsh Dubey (84) for a 184-run partnership for the sixth wicket taking India A to 382/7 declared in their second innings and giving them a total lead of 416 runs. At stumps South Africa A reached 25 without loss still needing 392 more runs to chase down the target of 417. Lesego Senokwane (9) and Jordan Hermann (15) were batting at the close of play. Dhruv Jurel Shines Again Jurel had earlier kept wickets for India in the home Test series against the West Indies when Rishabh Pant was recovering from a foot injury. Now that Pant is fully fit and expected to return for the upcoming Test series against South Africa Jurel’s back-to-back centuries have given the selectors something to think about. After scoring an unbeaten 132 in the first innings Jurel once again played a composed and confident knock barely giving any chances to the opposition bowlers. He built his innings steadily with smart stroke play using precise cuts drives and flicks rather than risky aerial shots. Jurel reached his half-century in 83 balls while Dubey got his in 76. Earlier Dubey had a lucky escape when he was dropped at first slip off Kyle Simmonds before he had scored. After that he batted solidly mixing patience with attacking shots. Jurel brought up his 14th first-class century off 159 balls with a flicked four off Tiaan van Vuuren. The duo added 127 runs in 28 overs during a fluent middle session. Eventually Simmonds got some revenge by catching Dubey off Tshepo Moreki’s bowling but by then India A had already taken complete control of the game.
