Deepfake Scam: Cyber thugs now use AI technology and technology to trap people Deepfake Taking help of videos. Scammers, sometimes giving false promises of “digital arrest” and sometimes “work from home”, are now cheating people by making fake videos of famous celebrities. Recently, many such videos are going viral on social media in which famous faces like Virat Kohli, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Anant Ambani are shown, but all these videos are completely fake (AI Generated Deepfake Videos).
Promotion of fake stock trading apps
Bengaluru Cybercrime Police has taken suo motu cognizance of this matter and started investigation. According to reports, Sub-Inspector Rohini Reddy saw several such deepfake videos on social media between November 1 and 3. In these videos, some fake stock trading applications are being promoted through popular celebrities.
In the video, people are being asked to download these apps and invest, and it is being claimed that they will get returns ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹1 lakh. In some videos, it is also being talked about investing money in online gaming platforms.
According to the police, cyber criminals want to cheat people and loot their hard-earned money through these videos. In this matter, a case has been registered under IT Act and Section 318 of the Indian Judicial Code.
How do scammers prey on people?
The most dangerous aspect of Deepfake scams is that the person seen in the video appears to be real. Scammers edit the faces and voices of celebrities to make videos appear as if the same person is recommending an app or investment scheme. This increases the trust of users and they invest money in fake apps.
How to identify Deepfake video?
- Pay attention to the quality of the video. Lip sync often does not match in Deepfake videos.
- There is a disparity in voice and facial movements.
- The apps or websites talked about in such videos are not available on any trusted platform.
- If the lure of more profits in less time is being given in the video, then understand that it is a scam.
If you see any such video, do not fall into its trap, but immediately report it on social media platforms or cybercrime portals.
