A 40-year-old married woman succumbed to her injuries five days after she was attacked while protesting against an attempted sexual assault by a 14-year-old boy in a village near Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. Authorities confirmed that the suspect has been apprehended.
The incident occurred on November 3, when the woman was cutting grass in a field. According to officials, a ninth-grade student forcibly grabbed her and attempted to sexually assault her.
When the woman resisted, the attacker brutally assaulted her with a stick and a sickle, resulting in severe injuries.
Community Response and Investigation
Local villagers discovered her lying in a pool of blood in the field and promptly alerted the police. She was initially taken to Hamirpur Medical College and later referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh for further treatment.
During the investigation, police recovered a broken piece of a pen and a scale from the crime scene. The accused confessed to his crime during questioning, and evidence collected at the site indicates that he intended to commit sexual assault. Authorities have registered a case under the relevant sections of the law.
