Billionaire Mukesh Ambani offered prayers at the Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple in Keralas Thrissur on Sunday and donated Rs 15 crore to the proposed Devaswom multi-speciality hospital. According to temple officials Mukesh Ambani arrived in Guruvayur at around 7:30 am on Sunday morning when his private helicopter landed at the Sreekrishna College ground. Later Ambani travelled to the southern gate of the Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple where he was received by Devaswom Chairman Dr V K Vijayan and other members. Mukesh Ambani offers prayers at Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple In a Facebook post Guruvayur Devaswom said that Mukesh Ambani entered the temple with a neivilakku vazhipadu (offering) coupon arranged for 25 members. Due a public holiday special darshan restrictions were in place at the temple it said adding that the Reliance Industries Chairman offered prayers inside the temples sanctum sanctorum made offerings at the sopanapadi (temple steps) and received prasadam from the chief priest. After the rituals Vijayan presented Ambani with the temple’s prasadam along with a commemorative portrait of Lord Guruvayurappan and later Devaswom officials briefed him on the proposed multi-speciality hospital and a planned modern veterinary hospital for the temple elephants. Why Mukesh Ambani donated Rs 15 crore to Devasom? Mukesh Ambani who is known for his philanthropic ventures assured full support for both projects and handed over a cheque for Rs 15 crore as the first contribution towards the hospital’s construction according to the Devasom. Additionally Ambani also offered to extend technical assistance based on the model of Reliance’s wildlife conservation centre in Gujarat to improve the care and management of Guruvayur’s elephants.
