KARACHI: Actress-cum-television host Mishi Khan severely lambasted social media influencer Dr. Nabiha Ali Khan over the latter’s controversy-ridden claims about the worth and weight of her bridal jewelry and outfit.
Dr. Nabiha, who recently married her close friend Haris Khokhar in a ceremony performed by well-known Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel, had made the claim of donning a 35-kilogram gold set worth 1.5 crore rupees, while she wore a wedding gown by famous designer Hina Salman reportedly worth 1 crore rupees. The entire wedding and subsequent claims made on it went viral on social media as people shared them enthusiastically.
Taking exception to these, Mishi Khan responded skeptically and with a tinge of sarcasm: “A 35-kilogram set—surely no one even wore this much jewelry at the Ambani wedding. And which shop sells 35 kilos of gold for just one-and-a-half crore? If such a place exists, we all would love to shop there.”
Mishi added that such displays were misplaced and had no bearing on social realities, saying, “In a society where many struggle to afford basic needs, one has no business showing off such wealth.” Her comments mirror growing public scrutiny of ostentatious displays by influencers and celebrities, especially on social media platforms.
The controversy follows a pattern where claims of expensive bridal jewelry and attire often spark debates on authenticity and societal impact. Dr. Nabiha’s assertions about the weight and cost of her gold set and designer dress have been received skeptically among followers and industry peers alike, with many questioning how such a heavy set could be worn comfortably during a wedding ceremony.
While Dr. Nabiha’s wedding was highly appreciated for its grandeur and participation of prominent personalities, including Maulana Tariq Jameel, attention has now shifted to the credibility of her claims and the overall ramifications of displaying wealth within a society faced with economic divides.
This episode adds to the ongoing conversations in Pakistan about social media responsibility, celebrity influence, and the public perception of extravagant lifestyles, especially when highlighted in a society with sharp economic contrasts. Mishi Khan’s comments have sparked further debate online, with users weighing in on the feasibility of the gold set and the ethics of public displays of wealth, reinforcing the conversation about social responsibility among public figures.
