In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood many stars come and go; while some become overnight stars others fade away quietly. But some rare gems only rise to fade away suddenly. One such similar tale is of actress Shoma Anand. Ruling the golden era of cinema with her effortless charm great screen presence and beauty Shoma became a household name. But soon this actress who had touched immense heights faded away into obscurity because of her own decision. Originally named Neelam Arora Shoma made her career debut after changing her name. She made her debut in the 1976 film Barood alongside Rishi Kapoor. Her natural charm and strong screen presence captivated the audience turning her into an overnight sensation. The film’s success brought her immense recognition and she quickly became one of the most sought-after faces in the industry. With her expressive eyes and graceful performances Shoma became every filmmaker’s favourite choice and appeared in several hit films soon after her debut. Career cut short by personal choices However at the peak of her stardom destiny took a turn. Shoma fell in love with actor Tariq Shah and the two decided to marry. But what happened later after her marriage cost her her career. After marriage Tariq reportedly asked Shoma to quit acting in films forcing her to step away from the glamorous world she had once ruled. Shoma distanced herself from Bollywood and chose to focus on her family. Years later in 2021 tragedy struck when Tariq Shah passed away due to pneumonia leaving Shoma to take care of their daughter Sara Shah on her own. Finding her way back through television After nearly 15 years away from the limelight Shoma made a powerful comeback through television. With shows like Bhabhi Hum Paanch Shararat and Jeannie Aur Juju she regained popularity and once again became a familiar face in Indian households. She later returned to the big screen with films like Hungama reminding everyone of her impeccable comic timing. Her last film appearance was in ‘Life Partner’ in the year 2010.
