Renowned Pakistani actress, model, and TV host Iffat Omar has shared the real reason behind her decision to distance herself from the showbiz industry, revealing that when she had to beg for her own money like a beggar, it became clear to her that it was time to step away from this environment.
In a recent appearance on the popular comedy talk show fun nightIffat Omar spoke candidly about her views on the television drama industry. She emphasized that drama, being a medium watched by entire families, should have a reformative and positive message. According to Iffat, both good and bad content is being produced in the industry, but only about 40% of it can be considered good.
The actress also revealed that she no longer watches Pakistani dramas. In fact, she mentioned that she has never watched any of her own dramas, as she tends to focus on the technical aspects and behind-the-scenes occurrences while watching. “When I watch dramas, I can always tell when the actor is angry or what is going on behind the camera,” she explained. With the advent of mobile phones, Iffat now prefers to watch more engaging content on her device.
On the topic of complaints regarding actor pay, Iffat admitted she is unaware of the current situation, as she hasn’t been part of any projects for some time. However, she pointed out that this lack of proper compensation is one of the main reasons she chose to distance herself from the industry. “When you have to beg for your own money, it’s better to separate yourself from such an environment,” she said.
She further highlighted the disrespectful nature of the industry, stating that when actors refuse to work due to non-payment, producers often threaten them. This, Iffat believes, is a serious violation of an actor’s dignity, as they are the ones who make the drama sell. Unable to bring about change within the system, Iffat Omar decided to walk away from the industry for good.
