Indian Railways has made a major change to the rules for online ticket booking. Aadhaar verification is now mandatory for booking tickets on the IRCTC website or app between 8 AM and 10 AM. Booking during this time slot will only be available to users whose accounts are linked to Aadhaar. Ticket booking without Aadhaar authentication will not be possible.

Cut down on fraudulent bookings.
According to the Railways, this rule aims to curb fraudulent bookings and ticket touts. Demand for tickets is highest during these two hours, and many agents buy tickets in bulk and sell them at high prices. Aadhaar-based authentication will ensure that only genuine passengers will receive tickets, increasing transparency in the system and reducing fraud. Users who have not yet linked their Aadhaar will not be able to book tickets in the morning, but will be able to book normally after 10 AM.

How to link Aadhaar
Go to your IRCTC account and select the 'Authenticate User' option in the 'My Profile' section. After entering the Aadhaar number, an OTP will appear, which will complete the verification process. Once this process is complete, passengers will be able to book tickets without any interruption at any time. This rule applies only to online ticket bookings; it will not affect those purchasing tickets from the railway station's PRS counter.

A step towards a digital and secure railway

Railway officials say that Aadhaar-based booking will make the system more transparent and secure. Every ticket will now be linked to a verified identity, eliminating the possibility of duplicate or fraudulent bookings. This move also strengthens the Digital India mission. Experts believe that this rule will be beneficial for passengers in the long run, increasing both trust and convenience. Passengers have been advised to complete Aadhaar linking in advance to avoid hassles during booking. This change is considered a major step towards making the railway ticketing system smart, secure, and fair. With a little preparation, passengers will be able to easily take advantage of this new system.
