full moon and new moon
Purnima Amavasya in between: Purnima and Amavasya Tithi have different significance and beliefs in Hindu religious scriptures. There are only 12 new moons and 12 full moons in a year. Often there is a fear in the minds of people regarding Amavasya, because it is also called black night. The last date of Krishna Paksha of every month is called Amavasya and the last date of Shukla Paksha is called Purnima. In this article we will tell you what is the difference between full moon and new moon and will also know the importance of both.
What is the difference between Mavas and Purnima? (Amavasya and Purnima)
The main difference between Purnima and Amavasya is that on the day of Purnima the moon appears fully illuminated and round, whereas on the day of Amavasya the moon is not visible at all. At the time of full moon, the Moon is on the opposite side of the Earth and at the time of Amavasya, the Moon is between the Earth and the Sun, due to which its illuminated part is not visible from the Earth.
Purnima is considered auspicious and important for charity, bathing and worship. Amavasya is considered inauspicious, but it has special significance in some religious traditions, such as for offering prayers to ancestors or for sadhana. Mother Lakshmi visits on full moon day. At the same time, the influence of negative forces is more on Amavasya.
