New Delhi. There was a massive explosion in a car parked near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort metro station in the capital Delhi on Saturday evening, causing chaos in the area. One person died** in this explosion, while two to three people are said to be injured. Police have expressed apprehension that the death toll may increase.
The fire brigade received information about the blast at 6.55 pm. As soon as the information was received, **fire brigade, police and NIA team** reached the spot. After the blast, the car caught fire, which also engulfed three other vehicles parked nearby.
According to eyewitnesses, the explosion was so strong that the windows of nearby vehicles were broken and the people present there got scared. There was a large crowd present at the spot at that time. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
At present it is not clear whether the explosion was caused by the CNG in the car or due to some other reason. Fire brigade teams are busy controlling the fire. This blast has increased the concern of security agencies. In the initial investigation, this matter does not seem to be just a local accident. The incident comes at a time when 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate has been recovered in Faridabad, adjacent to Delhi. However, officials have currently refused to link the two incidents.
According to the information, the recovered ammonium nitrate is a chemical substance used in making explosives and it was kept in different suitcases and plastic containers**.
