Effect of pollution on pregnant women
The pollution level is at a dangerous level. Its effect is also being felt on pregnant women. The matter of concern is that it is harming both the mother and the child. According to the research of the National Library of Medicine, PM 2.5 (small particles present in pollution) can harm the lungs of both the woman and the baby. In such a situation, there is a need to take special precautions.
According to WHO reports, pregnant women exposed to polluted air for a long time have an increased risk of pre-mature delivery, low birth weight babies and respiratory problems after birth. It can even increase the risk of Alzheimer's in children. Due to pollution, women are also at risk of asthma and bronchitis. Small particles present in pollution enter the lungs through breath. These not only damage the lungs, but they also reach the blood. Then they also cause damage to the heart and brain. In pregnant women, these also reach the fetus and harm the health of the unborn child.
Risk of change in DNA
Research has shown that the children of women who are exposed to pollution for a long time are at greater risk. The risk of blood pressure, heart disease and swelling is also higher in these women.
Dr. Saloni Chadha, Associate Professor in the Department of Gynecology at RML Hospital, Delhi, says that the toxins accumulated in the mother's body through pollution can cause changes in the DNA of the fetus, which can later lead to problems like asthma or allergies in the child.
Even children who live in a polluted environment for a long time after birth are at risk of suffering from respiratory problems, asthma, bronchitis and COPD as they grow older.
