Vodafone Idea Q2: Loss narrows to Rs 5524 crore, improvement in revenue and cash flow

Vodafone Idea has released its September quarter results on Monday, in which there has been a decline in the company's losses. The company's loss this quarter reduced to Rs 5,524 crore. Which was Rs 7,176 crore in the same quarter of last year. This loss has occurred due to reasons related to the owners of the company. The quarterly operating revenue of the struggling telecom company increased by 2.4% to Rs 11,194 crore, compared to Rs 10,932 crore at the same time last year.

Vodafone Idea's average earning per customer was Rs 180. This shows an annual increase of 8.7% from Rs 166 in the second quarter of FY 2025. The company recorded earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization of Rs 4,685 crore in the second quarter of FY 2026, which was Rs 4,550 crore in the same quarter last year. During this period, EBITDA margin was 41.9%, which was 41.6% last year, i.e. an increase of 0.3%.

Cash EBITDA stood at Rs 2,246 crore in Q2FY26, compared to Rs 2,324 crore in the same quarter of last financial year. The company's 4G/5G subscriber base increased to 127.8 million from 125.9 million in Q2FY25. According to the company, 4G network coverage has now reached 84.4% of the population, and 4G data capacity has increased by 38% and 4G speed has increased by 17% compared to March 2024. By September 30, 2025, the company's bank loan reduced to Rs 15.3 billion. The company's capex in the quarter and first half of FY26 stood at Rs 1,750 crore and Rs 4,200 crore, respectively.

Update on AGR

In the report sent to the exchange, the company said that it welcomes the decision of the Supreme Court of 27 October and 3 November 2025, in which the Court has allowed the government to reconsider the additional AGR demand raised for the period up to the financial year 2016-17 and take the right decision. Along with this, permission has also been given for complete re-examination and resolution of all AGR dues including interest and penalty. The company said that we are talking to the Department of Telecommunications regarding the next steps in this matter.

Speaking on the company's performance, CEO Abhijeet Kishore said that Vodafone is continuously moving forward on its goal of providing better customer experience. He said that we have increased our 4G coverage to more than 84% of the population and have completed 5G rollout in all 17 circles where we have 5G spectrum. The 21% increase in data usage shows that we are successful in retaining customers through our prepaid and postpaid plans. We are focused on expanding 4G coverage to 90% of the population and expanding our 5G reach with increasing 5G phones. Kishore said that we are talking to banks to raise loans for a big investment plan of Rs 500-550 billion. Moving forward, our focus will be on providing better service to our customers.
