Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu is likely to address the winter session of the Odisha Assembly during her visit to the state late in November, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan informed on Monday.
“There is a possibility of it (President Murmu visiting Odisha). The state government has sent a proposal to Rashtrapati Bhavan for the President’s address. If confirmed by the President’s office, it will be the first such address in the history of the Odisha Legislative Assembly,” the Minister said.
The details of the programme are being finalised and additional information will be shared in due time, he added.
While awaiting a formal schedule from Rashtrapati Bhavan, officials are preparing for President Murmu’s anticipated visit to the Assembly, her first since becoming the Head of State of the Republic of India. The Assembly Secretariat is refurbishing the President’s traditional chamber and other areas of the building to welcome her, according to sources.
The winter session, which is likely to begin on November 27, is expected to witness intense political debates in the aftermath of Nuapada bypoll results.
