Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani has been ruled out of the upcoming T20I tri-series against Pakistan, also involving Sri Lanka, after sustaining a back injury.

His absence will be the only change from the squad that recently faced Afghanistan at home, with Newman Nyamhuri coming in as his replacement.

Zimbabwe’s build-up to next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be led by Sikandar Raza and feature seasoned names such as Brendan Taylor, Ryan Burl, and Richard Ngarava.

The 19-year-old Nyamhuri has played four tests and four ODIs, having made his international debut in December 2024. He was named in the T20I squad for the tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand in July but did not feature in any of the games.

Zimbabwe will open their campaign against hosts Pakistan in Rawalpindi on November 17, before facing Sri Lanka at the same venue on November 19. Zimbabwe will then travel to Lahore, where they will meet Pakistan again on November 23 and Sri Lanka on November 25.

Zimbabwe Squad for T20I Tri-series: Sikandar Raza (c), Brian Bennett, Ryan Burl, Graeme Cremer, Bradley Evans, Clive Madande, Tinodene Maposa, Wellington Masakadza, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Tony Munyonga, Tashinga Musekiwa, Dion Myers, Richard Ngarava, Newman Nyamhuri, Brendan Taylor

Recently, a major development took place in Zimbabwe, where Sean Williams called curtains to his international career.

Williams has entered a rehabilitation programme to treat drug addiction and has pulled out of the T20I side before the World Cup Africa Qualifier series in Harare.

“After careful consideration, ZC has concluded that Williams will no longer be considered for national selection. ZC expects all contracted players to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and compliance with team protocols and anti-doping regulations,” ZC said.

“A review of Williams’ record indicates a history of disciplinary issues and repeated unavailability, which has impacted team preparations and performance. While ZC commends him for seeking rehabilitation, withdrawal from team commitments under circumstances involving potential testing raises serious concerns regarding professional and ethical standards,” concluded the ZC statement.
