Blocked ears or feeling of heaviness in the ears is a common problem during cold weather. This often happens due to cold, blocked nose, or accumulation of wax in the ears. If you also have this problem, then let us know some home remedies by which you can get relief from this problem.
Home remedies for blocked ears
steaming
Take hot water in a vessel and put a towel on your head and take steam. This reduces the stiffness around the nose and ears and the ears can open. It is beneficial to do this twice a day.
olive or mustard oil
Heat some oil slightly (not very hot). Put 2–3 drops in the ear with a dropper and keep the head tilted to one side for a few minutes. This allows the earwax to soften and come out and the ears open.
hot compress
Place a hot water bottle or a hot towel in a cloth and place it over the ear for a few minutes. This provides relief from pain and stiffness.
remedies to open nose
Gargle with lukewarm water mixed with salt or clean the nose with saline water. When the nose opens, the ear pressure also gets balanced and the ears open.
avoid too cold air
Cover your ears with a scarf or cap while going out. Cold air directly entering the ears can increase the problem.
Caution
- Do not try to remove earwax by inserting a cotton bud or any sharp object in the ear.
- If there is a problem like pain, swelling or pus in the ear, immediately contact an ENT doctor.
