The era of keyboards is coming to an end. According to a recent study, we will almost forget typing by hand within a few years. This is due to the rapidly growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI), which has completely transformed the way we use technology. The report claims that by 2028, voice AI will become the primary mode of work for humans, and typing will gradually become history.
This research was conducted in collaboration with the London School of Economics and the Zebra company. The study found that voice technology is going to impact every traditional way of working. In the future, instead of typing on laptops, mobile phones, tablets, and computers, people will complete their tasks simply by speaking. Scientists say that speaking is more in line with human thought, making it more intuitive, faster, and effective than typing.
Paul Sefton, Zebra's Global Head of Brand Communications, believes that by the time Generation Alpha, i.e., children born after 2010, enters the workforce, AI will have become a part of our everyday lives. People will then complete tasks by talking to their devices instead of typing. He says, "Convenience and efficiency always win, and voice technology is a major step in this direction. This will enable people to work not only faster but also more creatively."
The report also states that by 2030, the first members of Generation Alpha will have entered the working world and may not even know how people worked in offices before voice technology. However, some experts say that AI won't completely replace keyboards.
Fabrice Cavaretta, a professor at ESSEC Business School, believes that voice notes have limitations in things like text and email. According to him, "Written text is faster to read than audio, and it's easier to search for the necessary information. Therefore, the keyboard will continue to be important in emails and documents."
Still, it's clear that technology is rapidly changing our lives. Just as CDs and DVDs disappeared in just a few years, keyboards too may become a thing of the past. Today, we already use voice commands on devices like smartphones, TVs, and laptops, and if this pace continues, by 2028, we may be completing every task by talking to our devices.
