Masterstroke by Gautam Adani as his company announces entry into Battery sector, set to become world’s largest single-site BESS installations

The Adani Group on Tuesday unveiled its entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market with an ambitious 1126 MW / 3530 MWh project which is set to become one of the largest single-site BESS installations globally and the biggest in India. The project which will include more than 700 BESS containers is scheduled for completion by March 2026. In a statement the Group said the initiative marks a key step forward in India’s renewable energy roadmap bolstering the nation’s energy security and enabling continuous delivery of clean power. The project is designed to strengthen grid stability manage peak demand ease transmission bottlenecks and minimise solar power wastage. Located at Khavda the site of the world’s largest renewable energy complex the deployment is already in its advanced stages. The lithium-ion-based storage system will be paired with cutting-edge energy management technologies to ensure optimal efficiency safety and reliability. Speaking on the occasion of the announcement Gautam Adani Chairman of Adani Group said “Energy storage is the cornerstone of a renewable-powered future. With this historic project we are not only setting global benchmarks but also reinforcing our commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability. This initiative will enable us to deliver reliable clean and affordable energy solutions at scale.” With this strategic entry the Adani Group joins the ranks of global energy leaders investing in large-scale storage infrastructure marking a transformative moment in India’s clean energy journey. Looking ahead the Adani Group also announced an ambitious plan to expand its BESS capacity targeting an additional 15 GWh of storage by March 2027 with an ultimate goal of reaching 50 GWh within the next five years.
