In the glitzy and glamorous world of showbiz controversies are a part and parcel of being in the industry. Sometimes even the most respected names can find themselves in controversy. One such similar case happened with music composer A.R. who is known for his soulful and chart-busting tracks and found himself in the middle of a debate. Recently the Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman collaborated with choreographer Jani Master who is currently facing serious sexual assault allegations. What was meant to be a celebration of music turned into a social media uproar as this collaboration invited a storm of backlash. Questioning this collaboration fans were stunned to see how an artist of Rahman’s stature could associate with someone accused under the POCSO Act. The Collaboration That Sparked the Storm On November 9 Jani Master took to Instagram to share photos with AR Rahman and director Buchi Babu Sana revealing that he had choreographed the song Chikiri Chikiri for Ram Charan’s film Peddi. He captioned the post “We grew up watching and dancing to Legendary @arrahman Sir’s songs and I can’t believe I choreographed this chartbuster #ChikiriChikiri in his composition. Thank you for your kind support Sir… Grateful for the opportunity Mega Power Star @alwaysramcharan Anna #BuchiBabuSana garu @rathnaveludop Sir & the entire @peddimovieoffl movie Team (folded hand emoji).” But contrary to what he expected this post didnt invite appreciation; rather it created a stir of backlash for AR Rahman. What were the allegations against Jani? As per reports Jani Master was arrested last September in Goa by the Cyberabad police and brought to Hyderabad where he was sent to 14-day judicial custody. A woman who worked as his assistant choreographer alleged that Jani “sexually assaulted her in 2020 during a work trip to Mumbai continued harassment and threatened her not to disclose it.” The Narsingi Police registered a case under sections 376(2)(n) 506 and 323 of IPC later adding the POCSO Act 2012 after it was revealed that she was a minor at the time. Netizens criticise AR Rahman. Soon after Jani’s post netizens started criticising AR Rahman and even called the collaboration an “insensitive” move. One user wrote “Never expected this from Rahman. He stopped working with talented Singer Karthik. I respect his principle. But why is he comfortable working with Jani? Might as well collab with Karthik as well. Say no to hypocrisy.” Another commented “Wasn’t he expelled from the dancers association for POCSO charges? Then how’s he getting chances again to work? And ARR choosing to not work with Vairamuthu for a case that’s not been charged while happily posing with who’s under bail is something I can’t wrap around.” Reddit slams AR Rahman. Reddit user also mirrored the same outrage. While one user wrote “It’s hard to believe that he doesn’t know about his allegations.” Another said “The film industry doesn’t give a flying f**k about sexual assault… Mari Selvaraj and Nivas worked with Vedan despite all allegations.” A user summed it up bluntly: “The film industry is rotten… Posing with an ex-felon I truly didn’t expect this from ARR.”
