In the Parakota area, illegal construction has led to a devastating incident that has shattered a family's happiness. On Monday afternoon, around 2:30 PM, the roof of a scaffolding being built on the ground floor of a three-story building near Subhash Chowk collapsed.

This tragic event resulted in the death of 56-year-old Ataullah Mirza, who was trapped under the debris. Ataullah lived with his brothers in front of the under-construction building.

Scaffolding Supported by Weak Walls

The ground floor of the building was constructed with an unusually high ceiling. Approximately ten days prior, the roof was being laid to create office space above and parking below.

Experts noted that the roof was being constructed without any supporting pillars, relying solely on thin brick walls measuring three to four inches for support. These weak walls could not bear the weight of the roof, leading to its collapse. Local residents and officials from the Kishanpole zone confirmed that no permits had been obtained from the municipal corporation for this construction, deeming it entirely illegal.

Workers Flee as Roof Collapses

At the time of the incident, several workers were on the roof, while Ataullah was present below. As the roof fell, the workers and laborers fled the scene, leaving Ataullah trapped beneath the rubble.

Local Residents Rescue Ataullah

Eyewitness Ikramuddin recounted that a loud explosion caused panic in the vicinity. Before rescue teams and heavy machinery arrived, around 25 to 30 local residents worked together to lift the heavy roof and free Ataullah. Unfortunately, he was found bleeding and unconscious, and he succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.

Family in Mourning Before Upcoming Weddings

The deceased's family was preparing for the weddings of his niece and nephew, scheduled to take place in just fifteen days. What was once a joyful atmosphere has now turned into one of mourning for the entire family. Ataullah leaves behind four daughters and a son.

No Response from Local Authorities

Upon learning of the incident, police from Subhash Chowk, civil defense teams, and municipal officials arrived at the scene. Attempts to contact Bijendra Singh, the deputy commissioner of the Kishanpole zone, regarding the illegal construction went unanswered as he did not respond to phone calls.
