BMC Lottery for Ward Reservations

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has revealed the lottery results for ward reservations ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, scheduled for early next year. The draw commenced at 11 AM at the Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir in Bandra West.

Details of the Upcoming Elections

The municipal elections for BMC will feature a total of 227 members, with 114 seats specifically reserved for women. This reservation is structured to ensure representation across various categories, as mandated by law:

Scheduled Castes (SC): 15 wards, with 8 reserved for women.

Scheduled Tribes (ST): 2 wards, with 1 reserved for women.

Other Backward Classes (OBC): 61 wards, with 31 reserved for women.

General Category: 149 wards, with 74 reserved for women.

This allocation guarantees that 50% of the total seats are reserved for women, promoting gender balance in local governance while also ensuring proportional representation for SC, ST, and OBC communities.

Election Timeline and Public Participation

Across the state, elections for 29 municipal bodies, including the financially significant 227-member BMC, are expected to be completed by January 2026.

Citizens can submit their objections and suggestions regarding ward reservations from November 14 to 20. The BMC Commissioner will review these objections and hold hearings from November 21 to 27 before making a final decision.

According to the State Election Commission (SEC), the final list of ward reservations will be published on November 28.
