The trouble began when Thyagaraja Bhagavathars grandson B Thiagarajan approached a Chennai court seeking a ban on the films release. Thiagarajan claims that the film portrays his grandfather in a poor light showing him as a man with loose morals blind in later life impoverished and forced to beg. He argues that these depictions are entirely false and have been made without the familys consent. Thiagarajans petition states that his grandfather was a modest devout and compassionate man who remained a teetotaller and non-smoker throughout his life. He also points out that his grandfather was financially well-off owning a bungalow and luxury cars and did not have any bad habits. The petition seeks a permanent injunction restraining the filmmakers from releasing screening distributing streaming or otherwise exhibiting the movie.
