The death toll in the explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort metro station has increased to 12. The Red Fort will remain closed for the next three days in view of security reasons and ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage has revealed that suspected terrorist Mohammad Umar was seen driving a Hyundai i-20 car filled with explosives. Police have recovered part of the attacker’s hand from the crime scene, based on which DNA samples have been taken from his family to confirm his identity. Investigating agencies are considering this attack as a suicide (fidayeen) incident and investigating the case under UAPA.
Presence of suspect evident in CCTV footage
In the footage, suspect Mohammed Omar was seen driving the i-20 car used in the blast. According to records, the car entered the parking lot near Sunehri Masjid at 3:19 pm and remained parked there till 6:48 pm. There is also a possibility in the investigation that Umar may be to the terrorist module caught in Faridabad. According to the agencies, after the arrest of one of his associates, he was in panic and could carry out the attack.
Final identification will be done through DNA
Investigation teams believe that there were three people in the car and that it was a coordinated suicide attack. DNA matching of the hand part recovered from the incident site is underway. Preliminary investigation revealed that a large quantity of ammonium nitrate was used in the car, which was also found near the module seized from Faridabad.
