Gandhinagar: Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Monday that pilot production has started in three semiconductor plants in Gujarat. The Union Minister, along with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi and IT Minister Arjun Modhwadia, had reviewed the four semiconductor plants being developed in Gujarat. Speaking to the media after the review meeting, Vaishnav said that work on four projects is progressing rapidly. Pilot production has begun at the Cannes and CG plants, and production is expected to increase in the next two to three months. He further said that, pilot production is already underway at Micron’s mini plant, and further increase in production is expected.
According to the Union Minister, work on the FAB project being built in Dholera is also progressing rapidly. In future, Dholera will become a major center for high-tech production. Many semiconductor plants are being built in the country. The first made-in-India 28-90 nm chip is expected to hit the market soon. In semiconductor manufacturing, smaller nanometer (nm) measurements represent more compact transistor designs, allowing manufacturers to fit more transistors on a single chip. 28-90 nm chips are used in automotive, telecommunication, power and trains.
Earlier on Saturday, Union Minister Vaishnav had participated in the groundbreaking ceremony and foundation stone laying ceremony of the Compound Semiconductor Fab and ATMP facility of Sixem Pvt Ltd at Info Valley in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. On this occasion, the Union Minister had said that, in the last 11 years, electronics production has increased six times, while exports have increased eight times. Today, electronics ranks third in the list of most exported goods in India. With projects like this semiconductor facility, Odisha will soon become a state contributing significantly to this growth.
