Nowadays, fitness and health conscious people are including chia seeds in their diet. It is called a ‘superfood’ because it is rich in fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and protein. However, experts warn that eating some things mixed with chia seeds can cause harm instead of benefits.
Chia seeds help in keeping the body hydrated, weight loss and provide relief from stomach problems. But their correct dosage and combination is necessary. The wrong combination may cause bloating, gas, allergies or other health problems.
1. Dairy and high fat items
Consuming chia seeds and heavy dairy products like cream or full fat milk together can put pressure on digestion. This can cause problems like gas, acidity and indigestion. Experts recommend consuming chia with light milk or purified soy milk.
2. Too many sweet or sugary foods
If Chia seeds are consumed in large quantities with sweet shake or juice, then its calories increase. This may increase the risk of diabetes or weight gain. For health, it is better to take chia without added sugar.
3. Excessive coffee or caffeinated drinks
Consuming chia seeds and caffeinated beverages like coffee or energy drinks together can cause dehydration and energy drain in the body. Therefore, it is safer to consume chia seeds with water or smoothie in the morning.
4. Allergy causing foods
If you are allergic to any type of nuts or seeds, eating chia seeds with nuts may cause an allergic reaction. Problems like skin rashes, stomach ache or difficulty in breathing may occur.
Experts recommend eating chia seeds only after soaking them in enough water or milk. Do not take more than 1–2 teaspoons daily. By following the right combination and quantity, this superfood can bring magical changes to your health.
Ultimately, chia seeds are beneficial, but choosing the foods they are eaten with is very important. Only the right combination, balanced quantity and timely consumption is beneficial for the body, otherwise even a small mistake can have a negative impact on health.
